OBITUARIES 1 Monday, March 4. 1974 The Evening Sentinel Friends may call at the funeral Dance Band Competes The newly formed Carlisle 6 AH WAWCISCO ipgHVE ly IOWIST TIMNtATUliS Kutztown Junior High School Band, the Raider Band from Spring Grove and the Kalconaires of North Hills Junior Hih Schools. The North Hills Junior High School Falconaires sponsored the festival. Judges were Robert Bernat of the Pennsylvania State University music department; Jack Colannelo, assistant director of the Millersville Slate College Marching and Symphonic Bands; and Hal Setoff, coordinator of music for the Alfred I du Punt School District, Wilmington, Del. Orner said that members of the Carlisle Junior High School Dance Band were auditioned from the concert band.

Saturday was the first time they had played in a1 festival. The dance band is slated perform April 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Spring Concert at the junior high school. Junior High School Dance Band participated Saturday in the Sixth Annual Festival of Jazz and Stage Band Competition at North Hills Junior High School, York. The 22-piece dance band was formed six weeks ago and played three numbers, "Norwegian Wood," "Ticket to Ride," and "Good-bye to Love," under the direction of Gary Orner.

Seven bands participated in the festival and competition. Placing first was the Roger B. Taney Jazz Ensemble, Cam;) Springs, Md. The Ridley South Stage Band, Ridley Park, placed second. The third ranked band was Pottslown Junior High School Jazz Ensemble, Pottstown.

Charles E. Mentzer Charles E. Mentzer, 83, of RD1 Boiling Springs, died Sunday morning at his home. He was born Aug.

26, 1890, in Cumberland County, the son of the late Frederick and Emma Lehner Mentzer. He was a retired farmer and a member of the St. Matthews United Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Jessie Angney Mentzer; a son, Charles Mentzer, Royersford; three daughters, Mrs. LaVerne (Arlene) Miller, Boiling Springs, Mrs.

Joseph (Carolyn) McCullough, Hanover, and Mrs. Donald (Joanne) Krall, Dillsburg; three brothers, John, Utah, and Harvey, Boiling; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Beitzel, RD6 Mechanicsburg; 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 Tuesday from the Hoffman Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover with the Rev.

John F. Gundlach officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:30 until time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Matthews United Church of Christ Building Fund, RD3 Carlisle. Mrs. Ray A. Adams Mrs.

Ray A. (Mary Adams, 74, of 63 E. North died early Sunday morning in Carlisle Hospital where she had been a patient since Dec. 19. She was born May 9, 1899, at Mount Rock and was a daughter of the late Frederick -and Sarah Kitzmiller Goodhart.

She resided most of her life in Carlisle. Mrs. Adams was associated her late husband, Ray A. Adams, who died in 1970, in the estate and insurance business in Carlisle for many 'years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Golden Age Club, Carlisle.

(Annie Lechthaler, 91, formerly of 425 Walnut Lemoyne, will be held at the convenience of the family. She died Saturday at Cumberland County Nursing Home. She was the widow of Roy M. Lechthaler, former Cumberland County Treasurer. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, and was a former member of the Sunday School.

She is survived by a son, Roy M. Lechthaler, RD Mechanicsburg; two daughters, a step-daughter, three sisters, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Calvin Cole will officiate at the funeral service. Alta Marie Raudabaugh MECHANICSBURG -Funeral services for Alta Marie Raudabaugh, 68, RD1 Mechanicsburg, will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.

She died Friday evening in Seidle Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Surviving are a brother, William S. Raudabaugh, and a sister, Mrs. Violet M.

Coover, both of Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at Myers Funeral Home, 37 E. Main with the Rev. Kenneth I. Bower officiating.

Chauncey Varner CAMP HILL Memorial services were held yesterday for the Rev. Dr. Chauncey J. Vanier, 51, of 3 Locust Road, Camp Hill. He died Friday in Polyclinic Hospital.

He was a minister of the Central Pennsylvania Conference, United Methodist Church. He served pastorates in Ohio and Pennsylvania, including Three Spring United Methodist, Fulton Memorial United Methodist, Monessen; Liberty United Methodist, Phillipsburg; and State College. He had served as director of youth for the Pennsylvania Sabbath School Assn. He was associate executive secretary for the York Council of Churches and executive director of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches. The Rev.

Varner was a graduate of California State Teachers College, United Theological Seminary Christian Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Lebanon Valley Colley. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Varner; a daughter, Mrs. Judy Costlow; a son, Chauncey J.

Varner III; four brothers, six sisters and two granddaughters. Memorial services were held in Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, 125 E. Main with the Rev. Martin W. A.

Trostle and Msgr. William H. Keeler officating. Memorial contributions may be made to the hemodialysis unit of Polyclinic Hospital. Frank H.Hill Frank Howard Hill, 73, of RD1 Carlisle, died yesterday in Carlisle Hospital.

He was retired from Frog and Switch after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Bible Brethren Church, RD8 Carlisle. Surviving are his wife, Edna M. Hill; three sons, Harvey Hill British Columbia; Frank Hill RD7 Carlisle; and Richard L. Hill RD1 Carlisle; two daughters, Mrs.

John Brownewell, RD8 Carlisle; and Mrs. Robert Alspaugh, British Columbia; a brother, Paul Janney, New Cumberland; two sisters, Mrs. John Heuckroth, Quakertown; and Mrs. John Kulp, Linglestown; 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

CAMP HILL Hampden Township Police early rthis morning arrested a man and charged him with the burglary of tine West Shore Pharmacy, 375-1 Market Camp Kill. Jailed, in lieu of bail, was Dennis Fir.k, 24. of -1725 E. Trindle Road. Police said a routine patrol, shortly after midnight, noticed an airvent had been removed from the building Upon entering the pharmacy, police reportedly discovered Fink.
