Americans visited doctor 2.7 times WASHINGTON (UPI) Americans made an average of 2.7 visits to the doctor in 1980, and more than half of them ended in less than 30 minutes and with a prescription for drugs, a government survey reports. The said females made an average of 3.1 visits to the doctor each year, and males 2.2 visits. Americans over 65 averaged 4.2 visits a year, and those between 15 and 24 made 2.1 visits a year. In -15 percent of visits, patients spent less than five minutes face-to-face with the doctor, in 6.2 percent they spent more than half an hour, and the rest were in between, the survey found.

The survey by the National Center for Health Statistics found that drugs were ordered or provided in six of 10 office visits. It said the most frequently used drug was Lasix, a prescription diuretic; second and third were Ampicillin and penicillin; fourth was the heart drug Inderal; fifth was tetracycline; and sixth was aspirin. A third of the visits were made to family doctors, 30 percent to medical specialists such as internists and pediatricians, 30 percent to surgeons, and the rest to other specialists. Patients made 54 percent of their visits because of various symptoms, 8 percent because of disease, 20 percent for screening and prevention, 10.3 percent for treatment, 4 percent for injuries, and the rest for other reasons. The major reason for the visit was an acute problem New jet on board TOKYO (UPI) The Anglo-Japanese proAmerica's Pratt and ject that began in 1980 to Whitney Corp.
