died Wednesday in his home at 2401 N.W. 99th Miami, Fla. He was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Harrisburg, a ion of Larue Hollen-baugh Day of Mechanicsburg and the late Col. Arthur Reginald Day Jr.

He was a self-employed accountant in the Miami area. He was a 1964 graduate of Mechanicsburg Area High School and a 1969 graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College. He was an Army veteran and a former member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. In addition to his mother, surviving are tw brothers, Arthur R. Ill of Mechanicsburg and Donald A.

of Columbia, Mi; a sister, Marjorie A. Hamlett of Columbia, Md; a niece and a nephew. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Trefz and Bowser Funeral Home, 114 W.

''r, (-: About 1 8 fire companies responded to a full-size barn fire in Monroe Township Thursday night. The barn, which belonged to Edwin Z. Horst of 200 block of Boyer Road, burned to the ground, says South Middleton Fire Chief Edward Tanger. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. All of the cattle in the barn and much of the corn seed located in the barn's annex were saved, Tanger says.

The barn was totally involved when firefighters arrived about 9:35 p.m., he says. There was some concern with a home across Boyer Road because of southerly winds blowing embers, but there was no problem. Firefighters were on the scene until about 4 a.m., Horst says. He has not decided if he will replace the barn or not yet. Companies responding were: Monroe, South Middleton, Union, Cumberland-Goodwill, Friendship, Citizens of Mechanicsburg, Empire, North Middleton, Mt.

Someone apparently forced open a door of his home and entered, but nothing was reported taken.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 243-5252. Pocketbook stolen from parked car A Carlisle woman lost her pocket-book to a thief Wednesday night. Carlisle police reports say Shelly L. Farner, 600 block of Old York Road, Carlisle, left her pocketbook in her car while it was parked near the Carlisle Community Center on Franklin Street about 9 p.m. When she returned, the pocket-book containing her credit cards was missing.

No description of the pocketbook was given in police reports. Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact police at 1243-5252. George H. Trafford, 77, of 4 Poplar Drive, Mechanicsburg, died Wednesday in his home. He was born July 9, 1913, in Philadelphia, a son of the late George M.

and Rachael A. Mac-M ana way Trafford. He was a retired Army lieutenant colonel. He was a former employee of Stephenson's Flowers and a former Silver Spring Township justice of the peace. He attended Temple University, Philadelphia and was a graduate of Williamsport Commercial College.

He was a member of Oakville United Methodist Church, Carlisle Lodge 260, Knights Templar, St. John's Commandery 8, St. John's Royal Arch Chapter 171, the Saint Council, Harrisburg Consisto ry, Zembo Shrine Temple, Cumberland County Shrine Club, National Sojourners, Heroes of 76, Mechanicsburg VFW Post 6704, Elks Lodge 578 and Carlisle Woodmen of the World Lodge 715. Police reports say Kevin E. Shughart, 28, RD6 Carlisle, was picked up along North Hanover Street about 1 a.m.

on a warant charging him with simple assault. The charge stems from an alleged incident along North Hanover Street in October. Shughart was arraigned before District Justice Paula Correal on the simple assault charge. He was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $1,000 bail. A hearing is scheduled for April 24 at 10 a.m.

Truck damaged by rocks Carlisle police are investigating a criminal mischief that occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Police reports say someone threw rocks at a truck owned by N.L. Min-nich, 700 block of West College Street, Carlisle, while it was parked in a lot there. The rocks cracked the windshield but no other damage was reported and no damage estimate was given. Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact police at 243-5252.

Police cite man after near-accident A Carlisle man was cited for public drunkenness early this morning after he was almost struck by a police cruiser. Carlisle police reports say George E. Brownawell, 56, was crossing the street in the first block of West Louther Street when he was almost struck by a cruiser about 12:45 a.m. Brownawell continued across the street, then allegedly lost his balance and fell. He was taken to the Carlisle police station where he was cited for public drunkenness and later released.

Air conditioners taken from home A Carlisle man reported two air conditioners were recently taken from his home. Carlisle police reports say Harry Eckrich, 500 block of West North Street, Carlisle, reported the incident about 9 p.m. Thursday. The Sears air conditioners were taken from the rear of Eckrich's home late Wednesday night or during the day Thursday. The air conditioners are worth about $400 but description of them was given in police reports.

Police charge man for prison riots A man arrested by state police in Harrisburg Wednesday afternoon was charged with offenses stemming from riots at the State Correctional Institution in Camp Hill in October 1989. Police reports say Darel A. Clark, 26, of the 3600 block of North Randolph Street, Philadelphia, was arrested by state police sometime before 4 p.m. Clark was arraigned before District Justice Charles Clement and charged with one count each of simple assault and unlawful restraint, two counts each of aggravated assault, assault by a prisoner and kidnapping and three counts of rioting. He was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
