For the Record Obituaries Douglas R. Day Douglas Richard Day, 44, formerly of Mechanicsburg, died Wednesday in his home at 2401 N.W. 99th Miami, Fla. He was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Harrisburg, a son of Larue Hollenbaugh Day of Mechanicsburg and the late Col.

Arthur Reginald Day Jr. He was a self-employed accountant in the Miami area. He was a 1964 graduate of Mechanicsburg Area High School and a 1969 graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College. He was an Army veteran and a former member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. In addition to his mother, surviving are two brothers, Arthur R.

III of Mechanicsburg and Donald A. of Columbia, a sister, Marjorie A. Hamlett of Columbia, Md; a niece and a nephew. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

and Bowser Funeral Home, 114 W. Main Hummelstown, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Scholarship Fund of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg Ann Louise Harrison Services for Ann Louise Harrison, 26, formerly of Lower Allen Township, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in West Shore Evangelical Free Church, 321 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg.

She died Tuesday in Thailand after being trampled by an elephant. Born Jan. 22, 1965, in Missouri, she was a daughter of Scott and Sarah Lysinger Harrison of Lower Allen Township. She was a 1983 graduate of Red Land High School and a graduate of Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn. She attended West Shore Evangelical Free Church of Mechanicsburg.

She and her husband were volunteers for the past nine months for Population Community Development Association of Bangkok, Thailand. In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, Michael H. Smith; a brother, Christopher S. Harrison of Colorado Springs, a sister, Lynn Cohick of Mechanicsburg; and her grandmother, Mrs. L.C.

Harrison of Mechanicsburg. The church doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Revs. Sanford Mason and Eric Orke, her pastors, will officiate.

Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Upper Allen Township. Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market Camp Hill, is in charge of arrangements. Esther K. Sweeney Esther K. Sweeney, 71, formerly of Carlisle, died Wednesday at Cumberland County Nursing Home, Middlesex Township She was born May 19, 1919, in South Middleton Township, a daughter of the late James M.

and Mary K. Hessler Smith. She was the widow of Jacob Sweeney who died in 1961. Surviving are five sons, Harry of Boiling Springs, Earl of Ohio, Patrick and Ronald of Carlisle, and Roger of Hanover; eight daughters, Mary Raudabaugh of Mt. Holly Springs, Florence Jumper, Donna May Spitz and Stella Gutshall of Carlisle, Shirley Porter of Plainfield, Dorothy Sweeney of Elizabethtown, Lolita Sweeney of Selinsgrove and June Sweeney of Florida; two sisters, Phyllis Lynch of Mt.

Holly Springs and Loretta Wert of Carlisle; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover Carlisle, with the Rev. Ernest U.

Dohner, retired minister of the Brethren in Christ Church of Mt. Holly Springs, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m.

Sunday at the funeral home. George H. Trafford George H. Trafford, 77, of 4 Poplar Drive, Mechanicsburg, died Wednesday in his home. He was born July 9, 1913, in Philadelphia, a son of the late George M.

and Rachael A. MacManaway Trafford. He was a retired Army lieutenant colonel. He was a former employee of Stephenson's Flowers and a former Silver Spring Township justice of the peace. He attended Temple University, Philadelphia and was a graduate of Williamsport Commercial College.

He was a member of Oakville United Methodist Church, Carlisle Lodge 260, Knights Templar, St. John's Commandery 8, St. John's Royal Arch Chapter 171, the Saint Council, Harrisburg Consisto- ry, Zembo Shrine Temple, Cumberland County Shrine Club, National Sojourners, Heroes of 76, Mechanicsburg VFW Post 6704, Elks Lodge 578 and Carlisle Woodmen of the World Lodge 715. Surviving are his wife, Gwendoline A. Trafford, two daughters, Barbara T.

Simpson of Harrisburg and Carol T. Walter of Carlisle, and one grandson. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Myers-Hall Funeral Home, 1903 Market Camp Hill. Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Jeffrey E. Shenk Jeffrey Eugene Shenk, 28, of 207A Lindbeth Greenville, N.C., died Tuesday in Rocky Mountain, N.C. Born April 19, 1962, in Carlisle, he was a son of Charles E.

Shenk of Shermans Dale and Bonnie E. Kline Shenk of Harrisburg. He was a member of Pentecostal Charismatic Church in Greenville, N.C., and was a 1982 graduate of West Perry Senior High School and Cumberland-Perry Area Vocational-Technical School. He attended Central Pennsylvania Business School and Harrisburg Area Community College. He was active in the Harrisburg John S.

Sentinel Firefighters from one of 18 companies battle a blaze which destroyed a barn in Monroe Township Thursday night. See story at right. Carlisle man jailed on assault charge Carlisle police served a warrant early this morning on 28-year-old man wanted for simple assault. Police reports say Kevin E. Shughart, 28, RD6 Carlisle, was picked up along North Hanover Street about 1 a.m.

on a warant charging him with simple assault. The charge stems from an alleged incident along North Hanover Street in October. Shughart was arraigned before District Justice Paula Correal on the simple assault charge. He was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $1,000 bail. A hearing is scheduled for April 24 at 10 a.m.

Truck damaged by rocks Police reports say someone threw rocks at a truck owned by N.L. Minnich, 700 block of West College Street, Carlisle, while it was parked in a lot there. The rocks cracked the windshield but no other damage was reported and no damage estimate was given. Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact police at 243-5252. Carlisle police are investigating a criminal mischief that occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Police cite man after near-accident A Carlisle man was cited for public drunkenness early this morning after he was almost struck by a police cruiser. Carlisle police reports say George E. Brownawell, 56, was crossing the street in the first block of West Louther Street when he was almost Area Art Association and Dauphin County Young Republicans. In addition to his parents, surviving are a sister, Deanna Kae Shenk of Harrisburg; his grandparents, Kenneth Kline of Enola and Harriet Shenk of Liverpool; and his greatgrandmother, Gerturde Kline of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg. Services will be held at 3 p.m.

Saturday in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion Drive, Enola, with the Rev. Paul Zieber officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

$129,000. sey Friday, April 19, 1991, The Sentinel, Carlisle, Pa. Barn fire destroys structure About 18 fire companies responded to a full-size barn fire in Monroe Township Thursday night. The barn, which belonged to Edwin Z. Horst of 200 block of Boyer Road, burned to the ground, says South Middleton Fire Chief Edward Tanger.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. All cattle in the barn and much of the corn seed located in the barn's annex were saved, Tanger says. The barn was totally involved when firefighters arrived about 9:35 p.m., he says. There was some concern with a home across Boyer Road because of southerly winds blowing embers, but there was no problem. Firefighters were on the scene until about 4 a.m., Horst says.

He has not decided if he will replace the barn or not yet. Companies responding were: Monroe, South Middleton, Union, Cumberland-Goodwill, Friendship, Citizens of Mechanicsburg, Empire, North Middleton, Mt. Holly Springs, Silver Spring, Upper Allen, West Pennsboro, York Springs, Vigilant, New Kingston, Shermans Dale, Monaghan, and Hampden. Hospital notes struck by a cruiser about 12:45 a.m. Brownawell continued across the street, then allegedly lost his balance fell.

He was taken to the Carlisle police station where he was cited for public drunkenness and later released. Air conditioners taken from home A Carlisle man reported two air conditioners were recently taken from his home. Carlisle police reports say Harry Eckrich, 500 block of West North Street, Carlisle, reported the incident about 9 p.m. Thursday. The Sears air conditioners were taken from the rear of Eckrich's home late Wednesday night or during the day Thursday.

The air conditioners are worth about $400 but description of them was given in police reports. Police charge man for prison riots A man arrested by state police in Harrisburg Wednesday afternoon was charged with offenses stemming from riots at the State Correctional Institution in Camp Hill in October 1989. Police reports say Darel A. Clark, 26, of the 3600 block of North Randolph Street, Philadelphia, was arrested by state police sometime before 4 p.m. Clark was arraigned before District Justice Charles Clement and charged with one count each of simple assault and unlawful restraint, two counts each of aggravated assault, assault by a prisoner and kidnapping and three counts of rioting.

He was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. Clark is also an alleged deserter from the Marines in Quantico, prison records indicate. A hearing is scheduled for April 26 at 9 a.m. Home entered in Carlisle A criminal trespass in the 1300 block of Grandview Court, Carlisle, is under investigation. Carlisle police reports say the incident was reported Thursday by Vernon Winger, 1300 block of Grandview Court, Carlisle.

Someone apparently forced open a door of his home and entered, but nothing was reported taken. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 243-5252. Pocketbook stolen from parked car A Carlisle woman lost her pocketbook to a thief Wednesday night. Carlisle police reports say Shelly L. Farner, 600 block of Old York Road, Carlisle, left her pocketbook in her car while it was parked near the Carlisle Community Center on Franklin Street about 9 p.m.

When she returned, the pocketbook containing her credit cards was missing. No description of the pocketbook was given in police reports.
