Monday, January 17, 2005 B2 -The Sentinel For the Record www.cumberlink.com Obituaries Police Charles J. Charles J. Hartman 77, of Dillsburg died 1 Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in the Church of God Home, Carlisle. Born May 15, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles J.

Sr. and Catherine (Stein) Hartman. Mr. Hartman retired after 25 years as the owner and operator of the Hartman Insurance Agency in Dillsburg. Previously, he had worked as a district manager for the Insurance Company of North American and was a certified life underwriter.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Monaghan Presbyterian Church in Dillsburg, an Eagle scout and former scoutmaster, and a member of the Dillsburg Lions Club. Mr. Hartman is survived by his wife, Jeanne A. (Calcagno) Hartman; three sons, Richard C.

George Hartman Jr. Hartman, Philip Lance Hartman and Charles J. Hartman; three daughters, Kathryn A. Guild, Lisa J. Filipponi and Heidi A.

Lantagne; a brother, Michael R. Hartman; and 18 grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Monaghan Presbyterian Church, 1185 Gettysburg Pike, Dillsburg, with the Rev. Charles W.

Black George M. Black, 83, boro and Sherry D. of 9443 Upper Stras- Weist of Upper Strasburg Road, Upper burg; two sons, George Strasburg, died Satur- M. Black Jr. of Portal, day, Jan.

15, 2005, at and Richard A. day, Jan. 15, 2005, at the home of his son in Newville. Born July 29, 1921, in McConnellsburg, he was a son of the late John and Lillian (Buterbaugh) Black. Mr.

Black was a retired employee of the Letterkenny Army Depot, where he worked for 38 years. Later in life he worked doing custodial duties for the Chambersburg Area School District and The Beistle Company. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 850th Engineering Aviation Battalion in Normandy, England, Belgium and Germany. He was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Orrstown. Mr.

Black is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha E. (Hohman) Black; two daughters, Delores J. Garman of Waynes- and Richard A. Black Sr. of Newville; five sisters, Bertha Byers, Lena Mellott, Nancy Hendershott and Mary Deshong, all of McConnellsburg, and Dorothy Helman of Chambersburg; a brother, John Black of McConnellsburg; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in FogelsangerBricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King Shippensburg, with the Rev. Richard A. Black Rev.

Richard A. Black Jr. and the John W. Runshaw officiating. Burial with military services, conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion posts, will be in Lurgan Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. L. Jerome Fitzpatrick L. Jerome Fitzpatrick, 80, of Duncannon died Friday, Jan.

14, 2005, in the Harrisburg Hospital. Mr. Fitzpatrick was a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee and attended Grenoble University in Grenoble, France. He was formerly employed as a reporter with The Patriot in Harrisburg and other newspapers. He had also been employed by the federal government in the Department of Defense and the Office of Economic Opportunity.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Post 340; a board member of the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy; a member of the League of Conservation Voters; a member of Republicans for Environmental Protection; was active in the Sierra Club and was interested in environmental programs. Mr. Fitzpatrick is survived by his wife, Ann (Davis) Fitzpatrick; a son, Louis Jerome Fitzpatrick III of Quakertown; a daughter, Susana Yingling of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday in the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High I Duncannon. Friends may call from 7to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Penn Carlisle, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. Born Feb. 18, 1924, in Mt.

Airy, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. Campbell and Grace C. (White) Bennett. Mrs. Wright was the widow of Kenneth W.

Wright, who died July 15, 1965. He was an Army veteran who served during both World War I and World War II. A 1942 graduate of New Bloomfield High School and the Frederick School of Cosmetology in Harrisburg, she had also attended Carlisle Commercial College. She was employed at the former Carlisle Hospital, until her retirement after 19 Pearl S. Black Pearl S.

Black, 87, of Carlisle died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. Born Jan. 21, 1917, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. R.and Anna (Dewalt) Saphore.

Mrs. Black was the widow of Nelson S. "Bones" Black, who died March 24, 1999. She had worked for many years at the former Carlisle Shoe the former Masland and Sons, and the former Bedford Shoe all of Carlisle. Mrs.

Black attended the Mt. Holly Springs Church of God; was a life member of Carlisle VFW Post 477: and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Ladies Auxiliaries. Mrs. Black is survived by two sons, Joseph W. Black and Samuel E.

Black, both of Carlisle; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover Carlisle, with the Rev. Richard L.

Reese and the Rev. David Herr officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Township. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m.

Other Michael Patrick Love of Virginia, 12 months and a $100 fine for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and an additional 12 months and a $100 fine for a separate charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say Andre Palmer, 21, of the 500 block of Cherry Court, Carlisle, and Brian M.

Tuckey, 20, of the 200 block of Stonehouse Road, Dickinson Township, were in a car in the area of the 600 and 700 block of Cumberland Pointe Circle in Upper Allen when a bullet went through the car's rear window. Police say the bullet lodged in Palmer's left hand. He was treated at Holy Spirit Hospital and released, a police report says. "Due to the lack of detailed information from the victims, the Upper Allen Township Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward and call" the department at 795-2445 or 238-9676, the report says. The report says the pair told police they were looking for a woman they hadn't seen in three years.

Their car was struck by the bullet sometime between 6:30 and 7 p.m. as they were leaving the area after learning she no longer lives in the area. The report does not list who was driving the car. Driver leaves crash scene Mechanicsburg police are investigating a hitand-run accident that happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on West Simpson Street near the intersection of South Frederick Street.

Police say a parked car was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. "Significant damage" was done to the parked car, police say. Although police have found no witnesses, they say pieces found at the scene indicate the striking car could be a gold-colored Pontiac Grand Am. Damage to the vehicle would be on the front passenger-side corner and the vehicle was last known to be traveling west on West Simpson Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mechanicsburg police at 691-3300.

Man on probation jailed Rocco J. Luongo, 28, of the 400 block of Fairground Avenue, is in jail after causing a disturbance in the first block of West High Street about 2:15 a.m. Saturday. Carlisle police say Luongo was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after he was heard yelling profanities and seen making obscene gestures in public. Police found that Luongo is on Cumberland County probation and a detainer was lodged by his probation officer.

He was taken to Cumberland County Prison. Cause of fire still unknown State police investigating the Jan. 10 fire at Camp Hill Diner are still not sure what sparked the evening blaze. Employees at the scene said the fire began in the rear of the restaurant, and investigators have confirmed that "the fire appears to have started in the ceiling void space above the office," but little else has been determined. The fire so thoroughly damaged the Hampden Township business at 3449 Simpson Ferry Road that one official at the scene called it nearly a total loss.

The diner was closed for more than eight months in 2001 after a grease fire destroyed all but the outer walls of the building. Teens face multiple charges Four juveniles were placed in custody after police charged them with almost 30 separate criminal incidents in the Fayetteville area. Chamberburg police say that the juveniles are to blame for numerous incidents of criminal mischief and theft in Guilford and Greene townships since at least November. Other incidents included several burglaries and arsons. Two of the juveniles were arrested Friday after police searched two residents in Fayetteville.

The other two juveniles were taken into custody in connection with the incidents. The four male juveniles range from 13 to 17 years old and are thought to have been connected to incidents occurring at the Antique Mall, the post office, McKenzie Concrete and various private residents in Fayetteville. Vehicle hits pole, driver hurt A Mt. Holly Springs man suffered minor i injuries when his vehicle slid into a telephone pole at 9:50 p.m. Sunday on Route 34, about a half mile south of Route 174 in South Middleton Township, state police at Carlisle say.

Stanley Lynn Kuhn, 43, and his passenger, William Shearer, 42, were not wearing seat belts when Kuhn lost control of the 1990 Toyota Tacoma while northbound on the snow-covered road, police say. Kuhn was taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center, police say. The vehicle received major Two Perry County women were treated and released from Carlisle Regional Medical Center Friday after their vehicle rolled at least twice at 10:50 p.m. on Route 34 three-tenths of a mile north of Mill Road in Carroll Township, Perry County, state police at Newport say. Mullen of the 300 block of Dellville Dam Road, Shermans Dale, was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger north on 34 when she lost control on an icy curve and spun counter-clockwise across the southbound lane and onto the west berm. The vehicle then slid down an embankment, rolled at least twice and came to rest on its wheels in a field, police say. Alycia Pote of the 200 block of Maple Street, New Bloomfield, was a passenger. Shermans Dale and New Bloomfield ambulances provided transportation. The vehicle was severely damaged.

UniMart robbed Saturday Silver Spring Township police responded to a report of a robbery! Sunday night at the UniMart in the 6800 block of Carlisle Pike, New Kingstown. Police say officers arrived at the business around 7 p.m. after the clerk reported a male wearing a black ski mask entered the store and demanded money. The subject was last seen fleeing on foot from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, police say. Man faces assault charge State police in Chambersburg charged a Southampton Township man with simple assault and harassment following a Jan.

11 incident in the 1300 block of Mary Avenue. Police allege an argument took place about 9 p.m. during which Robert Mathias Proctor 39, assaulted Denise Rae Miller. Miller came into the police station the next day to report the alleged crime. Fire in Mechanicsburg Mechanicsburg-area fire companies were called to an early morning fire in the 500 block of Gale Street in Mechanicsburg.

Chief Joel Warner of Citizens Fire Co. said units from his company along with Washington and the Naval Support Activity responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. The residents were out of the ranch house by the time fire units arrived, Warner said. There were no reports of injuries. Police probe 2 burglaries State police at Newport investigated two burglaries in Watts Township, Perry County, between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Police say someone broke a door knob off: a basement door at the residence of Timothy D. Stine in the 4100 block of Notch Road to gain access to the basement. Scott Reichert reported that someone entered his home and removed property. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 567-3110. Liquor stolen from cabin Several bottles of liquor were stolen from a cabin in Cooke Township.

State police at Carlisle say someone entered the cabin in the 2200 block of Centerville Road and took the liquor sometime between Dec. 1 and Saturday. The cabin is owned by Jay Smoker of Lancaster. Car hits house, leaves years of service. She had owned and operated her own beauty salon in Carlisle and was a waitress at the Sunnyside Restaurant, also in Carlisle.

Mrs. Wright is survived by a daughter, Laura Jane Wright of Carlisle. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Ritner Highway, Carlisle, with the Rev. R.

State police at Carlisle are looking for the driver of a small car with a loud muffler that struck a house near the intersection of Frost Road and Pine School Road in South Middleton Township. Police say the driver was headed north on Frost Road through the intersection and drove into the front yard of the residence in the first block of Pine School Road. The car and driver sheared off a wooden pole then struck a wooden pillar on the front porch and drove away. The hit-and-run incident occurred about 6:15 am. Thursday.
