Carman AmersonThe Sentinel N. Middleton unveils Crimewatch van police may use it to cruise developments handing out candy at Halloween. Interest in the Crimewatch program "seems to go in spurts," Rudolf says, with the most interest in the summer. "Some people become complacent until they are victim of a crime then, of course, its too late," Rudolf says. "There's no guarantee you won't be a victim but at least you can learn what to do to prevent it and minimize the chances." Anyone interested in Crimewatch program information should contact Kibler or Carver at 243-7910.

Rudolf says the van will be used as a community relations tool at area schools, developments and other places where large numbers of people gather. The van will also help police develop relations with children and dispel the stereotypical image of a police officer in uniform in a cruiser. Once children discover police are "people too," then it will be easier to develop good relations with them, Rudolf says. Rudolf wants to develop special events in conjunction with Carlisle's DARE program. Costumed characters such as "McGruff the Crime Dog" and others might be used and Myma B.
