Preliminary plans for the development will be reviewed by the Planning Commission during its meeting at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Municipal Building at 53 W. South St. Austin will renovate the mansion to provide four apartment units, says Carlisle Chief Codes Officer Dwain McLaughlin. The carriage house will be renovated to provide two apartment units.

The townhouses, which will be luxury rental units, will be located in four new buildings to be constructed upon the 3.75 acre site. Each building will include eight units. McLaughlin says borough staff will recommend that Austin be required to widen West Louther Street from its intersection with Orange Street west to the end of his property, and the borough's border with North Middleton Township, a distance of about 350 feet Widening the road will require; Austin to remove a hill that partially-blocks visibility for drivers pulling-out of the west side of West Louther Street onto Orange Street, says' McLaughlin. The borough also wants to "line up" the west side of the West Louther Street-Orange Street intersection with the east side, he says, which is twice as wide. J.

Darhower Council receives cable petitions Petitions bearing more than 300 signatures opposing TV Cable of Carlisle's plans to offer the "Playboy At Night" channel this fall were presented to Carlisle Borough Council this week. Council President William Duncan accepted the petitions and turned them over the council's Cable TV Commission headed by Councilman Roger Spitz. The petition drive was launched by the Rev.

David Blattner of the Bethel Assembly of God Church on Holly Pike. Besides Bethel, the petitions also include signatures from members of the congregations of Grace United Methodist Church and the Carlisle Church of Christ. The Cable TV Commission is working on developing a new franchise agreement with TV Cable of Carlisle that may also allow at least one other competing cable TV company to operate in the borough. Silver Spring Township-based Flight Systems and Americable International of Miami, have both expressed strong interest in serving the borough. Flight Systems already offers "Playboy At Night" to its subscribers in the Mechanicsburg area.

It is unknown at this time whether Americable will offer the channel if it is invited to come into Carlisle. Americable recently reached a franchise agreement to provide cable TV to Carlisle Barracks, which is being challenged in federal court by TV Cable of Carlisle.
